Supporting Children with Hearing Loss
Did you know more than 1 in 10 children between the ages of 6-19 experience hearing loss in one or both ears? This impairment can lead to serious developmental delays for younger children and cause them to fall behind in the classroom.
Thankfully, early detection methods and intervention programs have played a tremendous role in helping many of these children overcome their disability and reach their full potential. I believe this work is critical, and we need to do more to expand it.
That’s why I helped pass the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act this week and send it to President Biden’s desk. This important legislation will help doctors and nurses detect, diagnose, and treat early hearing loss so parents and caregivers can take the steps necessary to support their child’s needs.
Early detection and intervention can change a child’s life, and I look forward to seeing the ways this new law will help doctors and parents set their kids on a path to success – regardless of the condition of their birth.
