Leading to Protect and Unleash American Energy
There is no doubt about it: American energy is under attack. Right here in Washington state, Governor Inslee and Attorney General Bob Fergueson are joining forces to ban natural gas in new homes and increase regulations on gas stoves. Meanwhile, New York just became the first state to officially ban natural gas stoves in new homes and buildings by 2026. This scary and radical shift is a direct result of the Biden administration considering its own nationwide ban on gas stoves earlier this year.
I don’t need to emphasize to you how dangerous this is. Gas stoves are absolutely critical to Eastern Washington families, many of which depend on them as a lifeline during severe weather related-power outages. Not to mention their affordability!
The good news is that we are taking action to protect these appliances by advancing legislation called the Save Our Gas Stoves Act to the full Energy and Commerce Committee. The bill is simple: It prohibits the U.S. Department of Energy from banning gas stoves.
On top of that, we passed two other bills to increase energy reliability and security, including:
- The Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act to ban imports of Russian uranium and help develop a U.S.-based supply of uranium to support innovation in nuclear energy.
- The Energy Emergency Leadership Act to protect the cybersecurity of America’s critical energy infrastructure.
I’m looking forward to ushering all three of these important bills through our full committee and getting them on to the House Floor for a vote. Each one is important to American energy security, so I’ll be sure to keep you updated on our progress.
